Music Choice hit the beach with Billboard recently as the chart giant hosted its annual Hot 100 Festival at Jones Beach in New York. Huge names like Halsey and Future headlined the celebration, but MC was there to chat with some super hot new up-and-comers like Jacquees and Daya. We got deep with the artists about a whole range of topics including their influences, big music festivals, and whatever else they were feeling like letting out. Below you’ll find four of our favorite artists from the weekend with more video interviews coming each day this week on our website.
Daya stopped by to chat about how she’s been taking a little break to find her “melodic integrity.” She also touched on how writing her new single “Safe” after the mass-shooting in 2017 at a country music festival in Las Vegas. She said the song was inspired by those events and how she always felt safe as a child but that is not the reality we live in now.
Rapper J.I.D has been doing a lot of festivals and getting stoked on crowds’ energy. “Everyone just be going crazy,” the Dreamville Records signee told Music Choice. He also mentioned how the jams from his most recent release, The Never Story, make for the perfect festival soundtrack because they’re pure “mayhem.”
The ATL singer has been shocked about the crowd reaction he’s been getting on his latest string of live dates. His new album, 4275, only came out in June and his crowds have been showing out already knowing all the words. Dude’s got some real fans!
Logan Henderson has come a long way from his Nickelodeon acting days. Rocking a new, darker look and sound the artist broke down for Music Choice how his past relationships are informing his music. “I’m a bit of a hopeless romantic,” he said. “If a relationship keeps pulling you in, it’s okay to get lost with somebody.”
